1) What book did you pick for this month’s read?
ReplyDeleteI’m filling this out for a #LoveOzMG book my son and I just read. In case I don’t get a YA read that I think fits the prompt. If I do read a YA that fits, I’ll come back and fill it out for that book as well.
Book: Ninja Kid #1 (from nerd to ninja) by Anh Do
2) Did you enjoy it?
Yes, very much and so did my son Riley – so much so we both were super excited to jump into the second book.
3) What rating would you give it out of five?
Five Ninjatastic stars.
4) Was there anything in your book that touched you /resonated with you in some way?
Hmmmm I think the underlying message in this book is to believe in yourself, practice makes perfect and that anything is possible – all valuable messages for both young and old.
5) What was your favourite part of the book?
The kooky inventor grandma character was good value.
6) Who would you recommend read this book?
1000 times yes, and not just for the kids 😊
7) Try to sum up the book in one sentence.
A boy with new Ninja powers, a forest full of deadly giant spiders, and a school trip no one will forget.
1) this month I read The Foxhole Court and The Raven King by Nora Sakavic. Probably NA more than YA but it will have to do!
ReplyDelete2) I enjoyed these books SO MUCH. I’ve read them way too many times in the last six months and each time I still find something new.
3) 5*
4) The Foxes are a motley and very broken crew and I just want to be there with them and hold them all. The character I relate most to is Abbey the team nurse because I am also a nurse (and also in my late 30s!) however the scene that gets me the most every time (and there are MANY scenes that will get you in this trilogy) is towards the end of The Raven King when Neil returns from Castle Evermore and Coach Wymack holds him hard and close on the kitchen floor, literally and emotionally holding Neil together so that he doesn’t break open and fall apart.
5) My favourite part of The Foxhole Court was Neil’s escape from the cousin’s house. “Getting out [of the window] took some serious wiggling since it wasn’t quite big enough for him, but desperation was a powerful lubricant.” My favourite part of The Raven King was when Wymack asked Neil “when did THAT happen?” and he was completely oblivious to what his coach was referring to.
6. I’d recommend this book series to people who like found families and who are ok with dark, gritty story lines. The characters are all messed up, but fiercely loyal and utterly adorable.
7) Runaway Neil Josten finds stability and family despite his pathological lying and being hunted by the mafia... all whilst playing college sport.
1) What book did you pick for this month’s read? - Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston. I think it fits "new beginnings" because Alex and Henry have a new beginning between them to put their rivalry aside and focus on being fake friends.
ReplyDelete2) Did you enjoy it? - I did! I absolutely loved it (and I am so relieved about it, too!)
3) What rating would you give it out of five? - 5 stars, definitely.
4) Was there anything in your book that touched you /resonated with you in some way? - Alex's realisation of his bisexuality. The sudden "oh" of it was so very real, and I know that it's something many of us gays have experienced before.
5) What was your favourite part of the book? - The emails between Henry and Alex. I adored reading their love letters to each other. They were so sweet.
6) Who would you recommend read this book? - I'd recommend it to everyone, really. It's a contemporary set in an alternate universe, and I think it'd be lovely for so many people.
7) Try to sum up the book in one sentence. - First Son if the USA falls in love with the Prince of England, despite thinking that he was straight™.
