She comes hustling through the trees, all noise and frantic steps. Blood on her cheek, a rip in her jacket, her hair coming out of its braid. In a second, she's in front of me, and she grabs my shoulders, gives me a shake.

Star's Thoughts

Ooooh, this sounds like someone's just witnessed something and they might be going into shock? Either way, I'm intrigued!

When everyone was laughing at something in the movie, Xochi went for the door. She looked back at Leviticus one more time, drawn in by a gravitational pull toward the impossible, but there was only Kylen watching her go.

Star's Thoughts

I think most of us have felt like this before - looking back at someone as we leave a room only to find they weren't looking at us at all.

Percy Jackson is a good kid, but he can't seem to focus on his schoolwork or control his temper. And lately, being away at boarding school is only getting worse - Percy could have sworn his pre-algebra teacher turned into a monster and tried to kill him. When Percy's mom finds out, she knows it's time that he knew the truth about where he came from, and that he go to the one place he'll be safe. She sends Percy to Camp Half Blood, a summer camp for demigods (on Long Island), where he learns that the father he never knew is Poseidon, God of the Sea. Soon a mystery unfolds and together with his friends—one a satyr and the other the demigod daughter of Athena - Percy sets out on a quest across the United States to reach the gates of the Underworld (located in a recording studio in Hollywood) and prevent a catastrophic war between the gods.

Sarah's 77: To reach his goal, he must first demonstrate great courage by succeeding as a keeper, finding a new camper and bringing him safety to Half-Blood Hill.

Sarah's Thoughts

Rick Riordan is hands down one of the best YA/MG authors there is and he just seems like a top bloke - seriously read his books and follow him on twitter or goodreads and you'll come to think so too.

The Lightning Thief is the first book in his Percy Jackson series and it will forever hold a special place in my heart. I look forward to introducing my boys to his words and worlds once they are a little older.

Fate nodded. She gave Isabelle's hand one last squeeze. "Yes, and I hope you will, too. Be careful of those fleeing Paris, child," she warned. "Not all refugees are harmless old biddies like me. Some are scoundrels, just looking to lead young girls astray. Be wary. Close your shutters. Bolt your doors. And above all, trust nothing - nothing - to Chance."

Star's Thoughts

IDK, this feels like foreshadowing to me! But it's also good advice, too. Especially in fantasy worlds - trust no one.

It sounds like what she really wants to do is procrastinate. Or maybe I'm just channelling my mother.

Star's Thoughts

I think this is something almost everyone can relate to - procrastinating on a choice. And also sounding like their mother.

Papa made a noise like a buzzer running out. "Wrong. You apologise profusely, assuming the other person won't forgive you and that you will do anything to get them back on your side. And you have to mean it. Anything."

Star's Thoughts

I think this is a passage in a book where the dad really cares about his daughter and getting her through a situation that she doesn't know how to get out of.

"The lady at the stall said if I'd take over face-painting duties, then me and my pretty girlfriend -" Harvey squeezed my hand - "could go to the fair for free. We can go on all the rides, play all the games, and even get free cotton candy. Pretty good deal, huh?"

Brooklyn's Thoughts:

I feel like this novel is honestly the perfect lead into the Netflix series - which I must admit I've only started watching! Sarah Rees Brennan captures the TV characters that we've all grown to love and portrays the sweetly awkward Harvey and his utter devotion to Sabrina really well, as she also portrays the quirks of Sabrina's Aunts, Hilda and Zelda. Definitely recommend for any fans of the show.
