Title: Wildwood Dancing (Wildwood Dancing #1)Author: Juliet Marillier
Released: November 10th 2007
Publisher: Pan Australia
Add it to Goodreads
Jena, along with her five sisters and constant companion, the frog she calls Gogu, lives in a crumbling castle on the fringe of a wildwood in Transylvania. Theirs has always been a privileged if somewhat restricted life, however, the girls share a fantastic secret, which they have kept hidden even from their family for twelve long years.
When Jena's father falls ill and must leave their forest home over the winter, Jena and her older sister Tati are left in charge. Everything runs like clockwork until a tragic accident allows their greedy cousin Cezar to take control. When it becomes clear that their secret is in danger of discovery, Jena knows there is only one place, no matter how dangerous, she can go to for help...
why i chose it
I read Wildwood Dancing because it kept on following me everywhere. Every time I went into a bookstore, that beautiful cover was right there. The blurb on the back of the book is one of those four liners which give absolutely nothing away, so I wasn't sure what it was going to be like. And then when I read it, it was one of the most richly woven, beautifully told fantasy novels I have ever read. The bonds between the five sisters is absolutely beautiful, the romances are bittersweet, and the setting is absolutely gorgeous (castles! In Romania!).
Wildwood Dancing quickly became a favourite novel, and I still call it my absolute favourite to this day. You don't even want to see my original copy! (Hint: it has a bent spine, and dust stains.)
If you want an Aussie fantasy to blow you out of the water, I highly recommend picking up this lovely book.

Tash
I'm Tash, the seeker of great reads. I have been in the book community since 2011 and have worn many hats in that time. Two hats has remained constant during that time. Blogger and Reader. I’m a firm supporter of local talent and love to feature a good #loveozbook.

Nicole
Hi, I'm Tony Danza. You might know me from such excellent TV comedies as Who's The Boss and Taxi. I'm here today to tell you about Nicole, who is one of my favourite bloggers. Not only is Nicole a contributor to the US based Reading Lark, spreading the #LoveOzYA love to the world, she also runs Nicole Has Read, even if her posting is a bit sporadic. Nicole's excellent tweets can be found here and photos of her lunch can be seen on Instagram. She loves reading anything that's put in front of her, but has a particular love of YA and fantasy. She is old enough to be your mother. But isn't. Probably. She can also be found blogging on Nicole Has Read.
Chiara
Chiara is my human, and she's absolutely the best around. Even when I annoy her by waking her up seven times during the night because I am bored she never gets annoyed with me. She always feeds me when I'm hungry, and changes my kitty litter a lot because I’m a snob. Her lap is the best place in winter and keeps me warm. My human loves me bestest in the world, which makes her wonderful. These are all the reasons I love her, which means you should totally love her, too.
Love Figgy, Chiara's cat.
Tole
Hi I’m Tole! I’m a social justice bard who is fortunate enough to live in the vegan food utopia that is Melbourne. I get paid to hang out with cool people and go on holidays and my special talent is using my enthusiasm to convince people to do things that make them happy.
I’ve been reading YA ever since I stopped being a teenger, and am especially interested in diverse contemporary fiction. I'm asexual, polyadjacent, and have have a whole bunch of mental health issues.
My other interests this week include Auslan, costuming, parkour, blues dancing, circus, board games, magic the gathering, knitting, rationality and arguing with strangers on the internet.
Sarah
Sarah here. I attempt to be a responsible adult, but am a rebellious teen at heart. I blame my parents, they gave me too much freedom. I’ve been blogging since 2013 and am a lover of all things YA, but have a special fondness for Aussie stories, fantasy and science fiction.
